An iconic 1980s drink alongside the Minitel and disco, Tropico returned to shelves in 2019 after being acquired by The Coca-Cola Company. The challenge: revive the brand for a new generation without losing the essence that made it a pop culture favorite.
Lonsdale redesigned Tropico’s visual identity, packaging, and brand world, blending nostalgia with modern flair.
We tapped into Tropico’s tropical heritage—dreamy beaches, vivid colors, and Coco the parrot—while adding a playful, urban twist to engage Gen Z.
The bottles preserve the “postcard from the tropics” spirit, ideal for families. The cans, on the other hand, boldly display rainbow palettes for a colorful, youthful edge.
The results speak for themselves:
– #6 FMCG launch in 2019 (Nielsen)
– €2.1M in sales within 3 months
– 39% repeat purchase rate after 6 months
– #1 soft drink innovation of 2019 by sales per store per week
– 5 Tropico SKUs in the top 14 soft drink innovations of the year
A vibrant comeback for a brand that now speaks to both nostalgic parents and curious teens.
