A Children’s Bookstore Reimagined as a Living Space

Two years after the success of Le Divan and the renovation of Librairie Gallimard, the Madrigall / Gallimard Grouponce again turned to Lonsdale to transform its youth-focused bookstore—now renamed Le Divan Perché.
Spanning 180 m², the redesigned space is brighter, more open, and street-facing, with a welcoming front area showcasing stationery and new releases. A gallery of themed alcoves (games, school, crafts, albums…) guides visitors through to the Nid des Petits, a cozy corner for ages 0–5, and an ergonomic mini-auditorium designed for storytelling and play.
Upstairs, Le Perchoir—a loft-like reading space visible from the street—offers comics, novels, documentaries, and creative workshops for children aged 6 and up.
Soft materials and warm tones create a calming, cocoon-like atmosphere, enhanced with bold accents (poppy red, nasturtium orange). With 20,000 titles carefully displayed under soft lighting, the bookstore is now a place to browse, play, and connect.
Since reopening, Le Divan Perché has become a vibrant neighborhood hub, offering events, author visits, and creative activities. More than a bookstore—it’s a joyful, colorful space designed for curious young readers and their families.
