To reinvent its proximity retail concept in the face of growing competition, Carrefour turned to Lonsdale to revamp its city-center Market format. The goal: to win over urban shoppers with a more premium shopping experience, rooted in everyday life and neighborhood expectations.
Opened in Paris’ 13th arrondissement, Carrefour Saint-Marcel is a next-generation supermarket—warm, welcoming, and inspired by the aesthetics of traditional craftsmanship. The agency placed special focus on fresh departments (produce, cheese, butcher, and fish counters), enhanced through refined design elements: glazed ceramic tiles, raw wood, wicker baskets, exposed brickwork, and 100% LED lighting.
The layout showcases fresh products from the street, thanks to raised glass-fronted displays. Checkout counters are discreetly integrated, keeping the spotlight on the product offering and reinforcing the store’s service-oriented feel.
By proudly replacing “Market” with the name “Saint-Marcel,” Carrefour emphasizes its local roots. A human-scale store with a sleek, urban, and premium design, it represents a new way to shop in the city—fresher, more gourmet, and closer to home.
