Reinventing a Cultural Landmark in Place de Clichy

In a time when customer relationships are increasingly shaped by technology, the Librairie de Paris is betting on human connection—revamping its space to encourage conversation, discovery, events, and cultural exchange. To restore its status as a neighborhood icon in Place de Clichy, the Madrigall Group (Gallimard) once again turned to Lonsdale, following previous collaborations on the Librairie Gallimard and Le Divan.
Lonsdale reimagined the bookstore’s unique architecture, emphasizing vertical volumes with tall bookshelves and a renewed layout that encourages fluid movement and leisurely browsing. From the storefront, striking literary totemshighlight current releases and offer a clear view into the store.
Inside, generous aisles, mezzanine walkways, and curated spaces support a dynamic experience that blends books with community and conversation.
Since reopening in September 2019, the bookstore has welcomed 50 additional customers per day and achieved double-digit growth, proving the value of a redesigned cultural space in the digital age.
A warm, open and human-centric transformation—bringing books, people, and place together.
